While most of the teams are keeping a sloth’s pace this MLB offseason, players are getting directly impacted. There has not been much singing from the New York Mets, but things are turning for Pete Alonso’s reunion.
The beloved first baseman of the Mets is feeling the urgency of his contract negotiations as he approaches free agency. This past Saturday, owner Steve Cohen described the negotiation talks as “an exhausting” process. But it seems he isn’t ready to give up on the idea of retaining the 30-year-old slugger. Just 48 hours after expressing his frustration, Cohen re-engaged with Alonso’s camp. And we might see a deal that keeps the “Polar Bear” in New York.
As the Mets contemplate their next steps, MLB insider Jon Heyman reports that Alonso is desperately hoping for a reunion with the Mets.
“Truly, it’s hard to know what to make of the ongoing saga involving the National League’s top home run hitter since he came into the league. And one of the most prolific in the history of the franchise. But from my drama-free distance, it feels like Alonso desperately hopes to return while the Mets could go either way,” Heyman reported.

Despite lingering speculation about interest from the Toronto Blue Jays, pundits believe the Mets may have the upper hand in negotiations. They are somewhat correct, as no other team has moved aggressively to secure Alonso’s services. While Alonso’s camp recently turned down a three-year offer exceeding $70 million from the Mets, some reports indicate that a reunion still makes sense given the team’s need at first base.

Pete Alonso Not Interested In Signing With Blue Jays Despite Team’s Interest
There were multiple reports of the Toronto Blue Jays aggressively pursuing free agent Pete Alonso, but things have changed. They were viewing him as a marquee addition to their roster; however, recent developments have made the negotiations sour.
Alonso’s desire to return to the Mets has intensified, and Toronto’s efforts have clearly been complicated. Despite earlier rumors hinting he might be open to joining the Blue Jays, the landscape has shifted dramatically, leaving Toronto in an odd situation.

Now, Alonso’s apparent preference is to stay with the Mets. It seems the Blue Jays may have to rethink their strategies. And if they still need his services, they potentially need to increase their offer.
Alonso’s situation is vital for the Blue Jays. He is seen as a key player who could also help attract other free agents like pitcher Max Scherzer. General Manager Ross Atkins must act quickly to sway Alonso’s interest back towards Toronto, though the window appears to be closing.
