Pete Alonso is not sailing through a peaceful tide. It is amazing to see a player of his caliber still in free agency. The spring training is almost here, and the MLB superstar is far from settling in with another franchise.
Recently, MLB insider Jim Duquette has shifted the narrative by effectively stating that the Toronto Blue Jays are no longer a contender for the first baseman’s services. Shortly after the Blue Jays secured a significant five-year deal with outfielder Anthony Santander, speculation arose about Alonso’s potential move to Toronto.
However, Duquette clarified on SNY’s Mets Hot Stove program that the Blue Jays’ dreams of adding the ‘Polar Bear’ to their roster have faded. They are comparatively more focused on extending Vladimir Guerrero Jr. and strengthening their offense in different ways.
“That’s out of the equation, I think, with Toronto. They say they’re going to be in on the offensive side, but it doesn’t seem like they’re going to be in for Pete Alonso. Another team that may have had interest in Pete is off the board,” Duquette said, as per Jon Vankin of Newsweek.

According to Duquette, the Mets might now be in a stronger position since they remain the primary team interested in re-signing Alonso. And if things keep on falling with the same projection, Alonso might settle in with a lower offer than some might expect.

Blue Jays Are In The Mix For Pete Alonso And More
While Alonso is still hanging in the mix, the Blue Jays could still make the right move. They have reignited their pursuit of big-name talent this offseason. While the insiders are still not clear if Toronto will get their hands on Alonso, their search is still ongoing.
After a rocky start that saw them miss out on several top pitchers, the Blue Jays made a significant move by signing former Orioles star Anthony Santander to a five-year deal worth $92.5 million. This addition promises to add up to their offensive capabilities. And that will complement their potent lineup featuring Vladimir Guerrero Jr.

As momentum builds from this signing, insider Hector Gomez suggests the Blue Jays are not finished and are actively working to secure either Alonso or Jurickson Profar, both of whom would undoubtedly match Toronto’s roster.
Alonso stands out as a particularly enticing target. He is coming with a remarkable record of 226 home runs over six seasons. His consistent availability would provide the Blue Jays with a reliable hitting threat, thanks to his 152 games in five of those seasons.
