Vladimir Guerrero Jr. is waiting for a better contract, preferably with the Toronto Blue Jays. The All-Star slugger will become a free agent in the next 10 months, and teams have already been looking for a trade. Toronto will do its best to retain Guerrero, and they have already started making attempts.
Irrespective of the offer from Toronto, Vladdy is predicted to seal a deal close to $400 million or more. Several teams will be ready to get a hold of the star slugger. The pressure will mount on the Blue Jays since they have no option but to retain Guerrero. Losing him to another team will put the team in a tough position.
The Blue Jays must go all out to match Vladimir Guerrero’s demands, even if they are close to $500 million. However, MLB insider Jon Heyman says that Soto was capable of pulling off a huge contract, and Guerrero is not Soto.
“Toronto is definitely gonna try to sign him. He is their superstar, they got a shot here. He’s a Canadian citizen. They have tried reportedly at around $340 million. Obviously, Pete’s not getting near that. It’s gonna have to be at least $400 million. Are we gonna hit 500? I don’t know. Vladimir Guerrero is not Juan Soto, let’s be fair. Not Soto, but I would say $400 million plus,” Heyman said.
Blue Jays Might Have To Choose Between Vladimir Guerrero Jr. And Bo Bichette
The Blue Jays are in a tough position after the 2025 season. The management has already signed Anthony Santander and must choose between Guerrero and Bichette. The chances of retaining both sluggers are pretty slim.
Toronto will need to spend a significant sum of money on Vladimir Guerrero. Going over $400 million for the superstar puts Bichette in a tough position. That said, they might side with Guerrero instead of Bichette.

To make things financially easy, they might trade Bichette and use that money to retain Vladimir Guerrero Jr. It’s about time the Blue Jays decide on Vladdy before it becomes too late. The MLB free agent market is getting hot as rumors of Alex Bregman are heating up.
