Corbin Burnes’ free agent market is heating up, with several teams pursuing the star pitcher. Burnes had a strong season for the Baltimore Orioles, and his demand seems to increase. Several teams have been reportedly trying to sign Burnes, including the Boston Red Sox.
There is always a demand for pitchers in the market, and the competitive AL East division is fighting for Burnes. The O’s reaped the best out of Burnes in 2024. The star pitcher recorded a strong 2.92 ERA with a 15-9 record, striking out 181 opponent hitters.
While Baltimore is aggressively pursuing Burnes, MLB insider Mark Feinsand believes that the Red Sox could get ahead with a trade deal.
“Remember that scenario in which the Orioles lose their ace to free agency? Boston could be the team to snipe Burnes from its division rival, as the Red Sox appear intent on bringing in a No. 1 starter this offseason,” Fiensand wrote via MLB.
The Red Sox could sign Burnes, but they need to beat the offers from other teams, especially the Os. Apart from Burnes, the Red Sox are also linked with Blake Snell and Max Fried.

The O’s had extended a $21.05 million qualifying offer for Burnes. However, he rejected the offer to explore other options. Burnes is a client of Scott Boras, and he’s expected to do a long-term deal with ease.
The talented pitcher has the numbers to back him up after his excellent 2024 season. It’s clear that Boras will try to land Burnes with a long team deal. That said, the Red Sox must be read to match his budget. Burnes is 30 years old, and it makes sense for him to secure a long-term deal at this point in his career.
It’s just a matter of time before we see where the star pitcher lands during this off-season. On the other hand, the Houston Astros are predicted to close in with Alex Bregman as the competition gets tougher.
