Slowly but finally, the MLB teams have started the offseason signings. While a pool of free agents still piled up, Alex Bregman is waiting for a long-term deal. He’s still in the mix for an ideal contract that would last a good six or seven years.
Although the majority of the league might see this as an adamant decision, Bregman has his own reasons. His halt in any short-term commitment comes in the wake of Pete Alonso’s two-year deal with the NY Mets. Bregman’s reluctance to consider short-term contracts suggests he believes he still has much to offer at the third base position. And he is looking for security that a longer deal would provide.

While the offseason is on the roll and spring training approaches, Bregman’s situation becomes increasingly urgent. Teams like the Tigers, Cubs, Red Sox, Blue Jays, and his current team, the Astros, have all been linked to him in rumors. However, he posted respectable numbers, including a .260 batting average, 26 home runs, and 75 RBIs.
Bregman is panicking his fans by holding out for a six- or seven-year contract. Those who have been waiting for his signing have turned deaf to any potential rumor for a while. And now that he is still unsigned, fans are not shying away from openly expressing their agitation about the long wait.

As spring training approaches, the pressure is on Bregman to secure a contract that aligns with his aspirations. While the possibility of agreeing to a short-term deal to prove his value in 2025 exists, it seems clear that Bregman wants to wait.
