MLB fans are offering prayers and messages of support for Los Angeles Angels superstar Mike Trout following news that he’ll be out for the rest of the 2024 season.
On Thursday afternoon, Mike Trout announced that he’ll miss the rest of 2024 after learning that he requires a second surgery on his torn meniscus. Trout has been sidelined for just over three months after undergoing the initial procedure on May 3:
It’s another sad injury development for a man who was regarded as the best baseball player for nearly a decade. Because of injuries and the shortened 2020 season due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Trout has only appeared in 319 total games over the past five seasons.

Trout appeared in 53 of 60 games in the 60-game 2020 campaign. But he was limited to 36 games in 2021, 119 in 2022, 82 last year and only 29 this year. It’s an awful trend for a generational talent who was building up a compelling case as the GOAT of baseball.
Trout’s 2024 season ends with a .220 batting average, 10 homers, 14 RBI and an OPS of .867. The Angels entered play against the Colorado Rockies on Thursday night with a 47-61 record.
Angels Will Need To Make A Decision On Mike Trout’s Future
Owner Arte Moreno made the careless decision to hold onto two-way superstar Shohei Ohtani at last year’s trade deadline, only to lose him for nothing to the Los Angeles Dodgers in free agency.
The Angels have one of baseball’s weakest farm systems and lack game-changing talents. Trout is under contract through 2030, but his age (33 next week) and injury history mean the Angels have to consider trading him.
Though Trout has never indicated a desire to leave, one can only wonder if he’ll be motivated by the chance to chase a championship on the back end of his career. Despite the hefty dollars remaining on his deal, several teams should be keen to take a chance on Trout in their bid to win a World Series.
