The offseason shopping is not coming in handy for any of the teams, not for the Toronto Blue Jays, at least. It is almost inevitable if any of the free agents are in trade talks and the Blue Jays are not involved in the discussion. Even if they put in all the money that there is, none has worked out for them.
The Blue Jays are coming off a disappointing offseason as they struggle to secure impactful free agents. The same lackluster performance has been a continuation of their difficulties from the previous season. After finishing the 2024 campaign with a dismal 74-88 record, the team is in dire need of reinforcements. Recently, MLB broadcaster Michael Kay openly addressed Toronto’s struggles.
“What’s happening with the Blue Jays? It seems like players just don’t want to go play in Toronto which is a great city. But I think going through customs all the time annoys players, you have to do it on every single road trip and they can’t get anybody to take their money. They were one of the high bidders for Soto. They couldn’t even get him to sniff that either,” Kay said during a recent talk.
Despite being actively involved in negotiations, the Blue Jays significantly failed to secure free agency talent. They did not only miss Juan Soto. The list of their ‘could have been’ is a bit longer and also includes Teoscar Hernández and Corbin Burnes. After none of their negotiations worked out, they ultimately chose to play for the Los Angeles Dodgers and Arizona Diamondbacks, respectively.
Toronto Blue Jays Have Latest Interest In Baltimore Orioles Outfielder
The Jays are continuously trying to take on the free-agency horses. With what they have missed, the team has a new interest now. The franchise is eyeing the Baltimore Orioles outfielder Anthony Santander. They are hoping he can add some much-needed firepower to their lineup.

On the surface, this sounds like a great plan, especially since Santander blasted 44 home runs last season. However, Toronto may be headed down a slippery slope that’s all too familiar to baseball fans. Especially for those who have watched the Chicago White Sox stumble through a string of poor decisions in recent years.
all these reporters are completely disregarding that Anthony Santander refused to meet with the blue jays

With a roster already weighed down by hefty contracts and a farm system that lacks depth, the Blue Jays need to think long and hard. They could not entertain any new signings, which brought some uncertainty to them.
While Santander has talent, questions about his batting consistency and defensive strengths make him a risky investment for a team that really needs to focus on improving from the ground up. What the Blue Jays really need to do is take a step back and avoid the mistakes that have plagued other teams. Chasing after flashy free agents like Santander might feel exciting, but it risks locking Toronto into questionable contracts that could stifle their future flexibility.
