Juan Soto is on the verge of signing with any team that gives him the best deal. The New York Mets are a considerable favorite to sign Soto, as Steve Cohen is all set to meet the slugger. The New York Yankees will not give up easily, as Hal Steinbrenner is set to meet Soto.
Both billionaires will fly to California to try to persuade Soto to join their team. Scott Boras, Soto’s agent, secures top-paying contracts and will surely demand a huge price for Soto. Steinbrenner is trying to retain the All-Star in pinstripes, but the competition is high.
MLB broadcaster Don La Greca believes Soto has no working knowledge of the Mets but is pretty familiar with the Yankees after his memorable 2024 season. He also thinks that, despite this familiarity, it’s pointless for Soto to have Hal Steinbrenner meet with him.
“Juan Soto doesn’t have any working knowledge of the Mets. He probably never met Steve Cohen, doesn’t really know what they’re about probably doesn’t care about the history. I don’t know if he knows all that stuff. But with the Yankees, he picked up some things, playing 162 games and being there since March. It does seem like pretty useless,” Greca said in a podcast with TMKS Baseball News.
Soto is unfamiliar with the Mets and their functions. According to Greca, meeting with Steve Cohen makes sense, but asking Hal Steinbrenner to meet him was useless. Soto has already met Hal and knows the ins and outs of the Yankees.

This will be a rare opportunity for the Dodgers to sign a star slugger. Moreover, it will make them the greatest team in the MLB, packed with superstars. If they manage to strike a deal with Soto, Dave Roberts and his squad will become unbeatable.
However, the money is what matters. The Dodgers might be able to pull it off and adjust with a long-term contract. Yet, there are too many teams in the mix for Soto. For now, the Yankees and the Mets top the list of favorites.
