The Houston Astros are doing everything in their capacity to keep Alex Bregman enact, literally everything. But things are at an odd stage. While Bregman and his agent Scott Boras is getting a little bit of heat from the Astros fanbase, nothing is making them say yes to the existing offer.
Recently, an MLB analyst, Dylan Delgetto, urged star third baseman Bregman to consider the profound gesture made by veteran infielder Jose Altuve. Altuve earlier offered to switch positions in a bid to keep Bregman with the team. Although this was a big commitment, fans are expecting Bregman to make similar promises. But his camp seems to have turned a deaf ear to what’s happening right now.
“So, Jose Altuve will do literally ANYTHING to keep playing with Alex Bregman. Bregman sees this and still doesn’t accept our offer and I guess he isn’t as eager to do the same? Come on Breggy. Let’s get it done,” Delgatto tweeted.

Come on Breggy. Let's get it done.
However, the prospect of an Alex Bregman reunion with Houston hangs in a precarious balance as the free agency landscape unfolds. With spring training quickly approaching, Bregman finds himself still unsigned. Although, this does not comply with his status as one of the top free agents of the offseason.

What’s Halting Alex Bregman-Astros Deal?
Although multiple teams have expressed interest, none have been willing to meet Bregman’s lofty contract demands. The interest list has names including the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays. His aspirations of landing a $200 million deal appear to be slipping away. What things suggest, as of now, is that he could find himself reconsidering the initial six-year, $156 million offer from the Astros.

Alex Bregman needs the Astros more than the Astros need Alex Bregman.

THAT is the truth.
If I were negotiating this here is how it would go.
Today, I sign Jason Heyward to a one year deal. This is done with both sides agreeing to a mutual option to buy out at the end of…
Despite the financial implications of the situation, it is Bregman’s pride that poses the primary barrier to his return to Houston. He is acutely aware of his previous earnings and the $28.5 million salary he received in the last two years of his former contract. This financial benchmark has set a psychological hurdle. And Bregman, along with his prominent agent Scott Boras, grapples with the idea of accepting a deal that falls short of this figure.
While Bregman’s pride is understandable, given his accomplishments on the field, the reality of the current market urges a reevaluation of his stance. If the Astros were to increase their proposal to a $174 million contract, not only would it meet his financial needs with a more favorable average annual value, but it would also allow Bregman to reclaim a sense of negotiation victory. Ultimately, though, this situation calls for a moment of humility.
