Pete Alonso wanted to return home this offseason to wear the New York Mets Jersey. Alonso was keen on signing a long-term deal worth five or six years with Mets. Since negotiations did not go well, Alonso was ready to sign a short-term deal.
Despite his hard attempt for a reunion with the Mets, the first baseman is still a free agent. Alonso is expected to be on a team before spring training. The chances of returning to Queens seems far off at this moment and Scott Boras has not been helpful.
Boras has been playing the waiting game for too long with Pete Alonso. From the Mets’ perspective, Steve Cohen seemed disinterested in pursuing the “Polar Bear.” Alonso made it clear to Boras saying that he wanted to go home to the Mets. Now that it’s slipping away, MLB Analyst Evan Roberts reports that Alonso will fire Scott Boras.
“Pete Alonso said to Scott, ‘I want to go home, and you better make it happen and now Scott is trying the last tiny pit of power he has to say. We’ve given you everything, Mets, now seal the deal. Alonso will sign a contract, and soon after Scott Boras is going to get fired. He’s going to get fired because he’s failed Pete Alonso,” Roberts said via his podcast.

Pete Alonso’s Reunion With The Mets Is Still Possible
The Mets and Alonso still have a possibility of a reunion. Alonso is ready to sign a short-term deal, but he needs to cut down on his price. The Mets are firm on their three-year offer of $70 million. It’s left up to Pete to take the offer or wait a little longer for other teams to step in.
The Toronto Blue Jays have shown strong interest in Alonso. Many believe that the slugger should consider other options. Alonso has a deep connection with the Mets. Leaving Queens will be a hard choice, but time is of the essence for the “Polar Bear.”

A few of Boras’ agents, including Blake Snell and Jordan Montgomery, signed late last season. Late signings have affected players’ performances, and Pete Alonso would not want that on his resume for 2025. The Mets could still be Alonso’s best option.
