MLB games don’t typically feature collisions at first base. And, judging from this recent one, that’s a very good thing.
A game between the Minnesota Twins and Cleveland Guardians this Sunday produced one of the scariest ones you will ever see as Royce Lewis, a shortstop for the Twins, could have probably broken his neck after running to an opposition player.
Lewis only returned to playing last week, having recovered from a torn ACL, and looked to be in some trouble again after Guardians first baseman Gabriel Arias inadvertently got in his way.
After hitting a ground ball to deep third base, Lewis took off running for an infield single but the throw pulled Arias to the back side of the first base bag and, given that he had the wrong foot on the base, the infielder tripped over him and went head over heels into an awkward face landing.

This could have easily turned into a horrific accident but, fortunately, Lewis was able to walk off the field on his own after a while.
Twins manager Rocco Baldelli revealed the player avoided a concussion or serious injury while speaking to reporters after the game, which the Guardians won 2-1. But we’re almost certain he felt worse for wear on Monday morning.
