The Oakland Athletics have been a running punchline for MLB fans for a while now. The hope is that it’ll stop once they make the move to Las Vegas. But for now, it’s the same old A’s. And they were in peak form during yesterday’s 3-2 loss to the Washington Nationals.
In the bottom of the second inning, with the score tied 0-0, leadoff batter Ildemaro Vargas hit a ball right back at A’s pitcher Luis Medina. It looked like an easy out. So easy that Medina was just going to run it out and step on first base himself…
But then he let up, as if he had decided that maybe he would throw it to first after all… And then he forgot to throw it altogether!
Vargas would end up beating out Medina on the play, adding another lowlight to Oakland’s 2023 season.
Vargas would eventually come around to score later that inning, giving the Nats a 1-0 lead.
Needless to say, this team can’t get out of Oakland soon enough.
