Justin Verlander and Alex Cora are no strangers to one another.
The two actually experienced some great times together when they helped lead the Houston Astros to the 2017 World Series Championship. I’m sure these two still get along, but things did get heated between Cora and Verlander during last night’s battle between the Red Sox and Astros.
It took place during the top of the second inning, as the Houston pitcher consulted with the home plate umpire in an effort to fix his PitchCom. Cora, however, did not seem to appreciate the delay, so the Red Sox manager came out to share some words of his own on the matter.
Verlander clearly didn’t appreciate Cora’s interjection, so he let his former Coach know about it by saying, “F off, Alex.”
Cooler heads would prevail and the Astros would go on to win the game by a score of 7-3.
Cora and Verlander have both moved on since they won that World Series together in Houston. Justin spent a few more seasons with the ‘Stros before joining the Mets at the beginning of this season. But he was dealt back to Houston at the trade deadline in a blockbuster deal.

Meanwhile, Cora left Houston immediately after the World Series to take on the managerial position with the Red Sox. The two sides temporarily parted was when Cora was suspended for the entire 2020 season for his role in the Astros’ sign-stealing scandal. However, he was rehired by the team immediately following the season.
The Red Sox and Astros will square off in two more battles to complete their four-game series. Houston currently holds a 2-0 edge, as both teams battle for playoff positioning heading into the final month of the season.
