Derek Jeter may be retired but he will forever be a Yankee at heart.
With both the Padres and Yankees having disappointing seasons, Derek Jeter would like to see the two teams work together in a blockbuster trade that would greatly benefit his former team.
While appearing for Fox Sports after Tuesday’s All-Star Game, Jeter was asked what trade he wanted to see this season.
“I do believe that the San Diego Padres could get hot and make some waves in the National League West. But if they don’t, the sun is starting to set. If they don’t have a good next couple of weeks, I wouldn’t mind seeing the Yankees go out and get Juan Soto,” Jeter said.
“You don’t know how long Judge is going to be out, they need some offense, I think it makes sense.”
San Diego is only 43–47 this year while New York is 49–42 and fourth in the AL East.
Yankees star Aaron Judge has not touched the field since suffering an injury in early June and the offense of the Yankees has sorely missed the reigning MVP.

The 24-year-old Soto appeared in his third straight All-Star Game and is sitting at 82 hits and 15 home runs while batting .265 for the 2023 season.
Though it’s not a likely scenario, any deal involving Soto would turn Major League Baseball upside down.
