Juan Soto just made a long-suffering New York Mets fanbase very happy…while simultaneously shattering the hearts of other Big Apple residents.
Late Sunday evening, news broke that Juan Soto signed a 15-year deal with the Mets worth $765 million. The contract easily surpasses the record-setting $700 million deal that Shohei Ohtani signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers last winter.
Disgruntled and devastated Yankees fans cannot say that ownership low-balled Soto, however. According to Jon Heyman of the New York Post, the Pinstripes’ final offer for Soto was a 16-year pact worth $760 million.
The Yankees, Mets, Dodgers, Boston Red Sox and Toronto Blue Jays were said to be the five finalists for Soto. But the Mets, viewed as the front-runners from the get-go, got their man on the record-breaking deal.
Yankees bid $760M for 16 years. Soto is a Met.

Let’s just say that in the world of New York baseball, there hasn’t been a more bittersweet time for the city since the Yankees beat the Mets in the 2000 World Series.
Juan Soto Shifts The Entire MLB Landscape
The Yankees missed the playoffs without Soto in 2023, so it’s not a stretch to think they’ll miss the postseason without his services in the lineup. But on the flip side, the NL runner-ups just added a generational talent who can help them challenge Ohtani’s Dodgers for dynasty status over the next decade.
