A beef over fantasy football was the root cause of a confrontation Friday between Reds outfielder Tommy Pham and Giants outfielder Joc Pederson that turned physical.
Pham slapped Pederson across the face as they met in the outfield during batting practice at Cincinnati’s Great American Ball Park.
After the game, Pederson went over his version of the slap.
He said he and Pham were in a fantasy league with other MLB players, but he got accused of cheating by stashing a player who was listed as out on the league’s injured reserve.
This all happened “over a year ago,” Pederson said.

“It was a surprise,” Pederson said. “He kind of came up and said, like, I don’t know, ‘Remember last year?’ And I was like, ‘Fantasy football?’ He was like, ‘Yeah.'”
Pham and Pederson are both in their first season with their respective teams.
