Four-time MLB All-Star and Bally Sports commentator for the St. Louis Cardinals, Jim Edmonds, may have landed himself in some hot water with some ill-advised comments pertaining to Native American team names.
Speaking during Thursday night’s clash between the Cardinals and the Houston Astros, and for no reason at all, the 53-year-old raised a debate that’s been long dead, protesting the name changes undergone by some teams, including the Cleveland Guardians and Washington Commanders.
With the Cardinals getting hammer 9-0 in the seventh innings, Edmonds and Chip Caray steered away from what was actually taking place to engage in conversation.
“I’m still shocked that we’ve changed so much as a whole that we’re not allowed to have the Cleveland Indians anymore — the Guardians,” he was heard saying on the broadcast. “And I’m saying that, too because my wife is partial Native American, Indian and, you know, I just, I always thought it was kind of a cool thing. Not a bad thing to have a team named after, the Indians or vice versa, whatever, the Washington Redskins. All that stuff.”
Caray wisely stayed away from that one as he pretended to be interested in the game again all of a sudden. And, while some fans actually agreed with Edmonds, he’s gotten a fair amount of criticism.

He’s likely going to have some questions put to him by his bosses at Bally Sports. What was the point of bringing this up anyway?
