On Monday, legendary Pete Rose died from health problems at 83. He is mostly known for his playing career, during which he accumulated 4,256 hits, his managing career, and, of course, his gambling problem. However, former FOX Host Jason Whitlock made a weird comparison to Rose.
On his YouTube channel, in a 13-minute video dedicated to Rose, Whitlock made an extended comparison between Rose and WNBA star Caitlin Clark.
“When I think about Pete Rose, I understand why there’s such a passion for Caitlin Clark,” Whitlock said. “Because when Caitlin Clark plays basketball, it reminds you of Pete Rose playing baseball. When you watch Caitlin Clark, it’s like ‘Holy cow!’ She puts everything and will risk everything to play basketball and reach her goals.”
“That’s why there’s so much energy and people trying to protect Caitlin Clark at all costs, why her fan base is out of control and rabid. Because she reminds us of what sports used to be like. This is what Pete Rose represented,” Whitlock continued. “And it’s a torch that has now been handed to a 22-year-old little girl out of Iowa.”
Whitlock’s comparison isn’t completely insane, but there are likely better ones that are less of a stretch.
Jason Whitlock Calls For Pete Rose To Enter The Hall Of Fame
Because Rose admitted to betting on MLB games where he was the active manager, he has been blackballed from ever making it to the MLB Hall of Fame.

It’s a big deal, as Rose is the all-time leader in games played, at-bats, and hits. Many, including Whitlock, called for MLB to finally let Rose in after his death.
Of course, though, betting is becoming such a serious problem that more offenders are caught every year, so the chances of this happening are very unlikely.
