The sports world is still reeling from the terrible news of Big Papi being shot in the back by a guy who wanted nothing but to take his life for no apparent reason.
David Ortiz was taken to a local hospital after his wounds and spent hours in surgery as doctors worked to save his life. He even gave a skin-crawling quote as he got wheeled in to be taken care of.
On Monday morning, there were more reports of just how bad Ortiz condition was and what doctors had to do following that gun shot.
The Red Sox issued the following statement on Ortiz:
“Late last night we were made aware of an incident involving David Ortiz in the Dominican Republic. David’s family has confirmed that he sustained a gunshot wound to the lower back/abdominal region. David is being treated at Clinica Abel Gonzalez in Santo Domingo where he is recovering after surgery. We have offered David’s family all available resources to aid in his recovery and will continue to keep them in our hearts.”
