Someone operating a camera during Sunday’s tilt between the Arizona Diamondbacks and San Diego Padres just earned themselves a raise with a perfect shot near the first base line.
In the bottom half of the fifth inning, Geraldo Perdomo of the Diamondbacks stepped into the batter’s box to face San Diego pitcher Seth Lugo. Perdomo smashed the ball 374 feet over the right field wall for a homer to cut Arizona’s deficit to a run.
But Perdomo’s smooth swing isn’t the only cool part about the clip below. Watch how his teammate, Corbin Carroll (in the on-deck circle), swung the bat perfectly in sync with Perdomo’s home run swing:
That three-second shot right there is truly cinematic art.
The Padres extend their lead to two runs in the top half of the seventh, but the Diamondbacks plated a pair of runners in the bottom half to tie it up. Arizona went on to score the winning run in the ninth on a sacrifice fly by Alek Thomas.
San Diego was a prime World Series favorite heading into the 2023 season, having signed All-Star shortstop Xander Bogaerts and veterans Lugo, Michael Wacha, Nelson Cruz and Matt Carpenter to bolster their offense. But the Padres have underachieved spectacularly in 2023, and they’re about to miss the playoffs just one year after reaching the NLCS.

The Diamondbacks have slumped mightily in the second half following a strong start, but they enter Tuesday just 3.5 games out o the final wild card spot.
