Cam Newton, who has made more than $100 million during his 10-year career, is guaranteed just $550,000 as part of his one-year contract with the Patriots.
His base salary is $1.05 million, which is the minimum for a player with his experience.
It was something that everybody took notice of and thought he sold himself short by not going after a better deal.
Newton explained his viewpoint on the modest one-year contract he has agreed to with the New England Patriots, writing on Instagram, “This is not about money for me, it’s about respect.”
His contract and his words led to Gary Sheffield Jr., the son of former MLB superstar Gary Sheffield, taking to Twitter to call out Colin Kaepernick.
He believes Kaepernick shouldn’t ask for a penny more than what Newton got if he truly wants to play football.
