On Sunday, Francisco Lindor became the latest player to suffer the awful experience of accidentally hitting a child with a line drive foul ball and he is calling for Major League Baseball to do something about it.
The Cleveland Indians shortstop urged MLB teams to expand netting all the way down both foul lines after he hit a child with a line drive. Lindor was informed that a three-year-old boy was hospitalized as a result of the accident.
The incident took place during the sixth inning of the Indians-Royals game.
“I encourage every MLB team to put the nets all the way down,” Lindor said, via ESPN. “I know it’s all about the fans’ experience of interacting with players and I completely get that. You want to have that interaction with the fans, getting autographs and stuff, but at the end of the day, we want to make sure everybody comes out of this game healthy, and we got to do something about it.
“Everybody feels bad. And if we can put the nets a little bit further down, I think it would be a lot better.”

Whether or not parents of the child were paying attention should not be the subject here as Lindor fought off a fastball that was thrown at 92 MPH.
“He’s in the hospital right now,” said the All-Star shortstop. “I came over immediately and tried to find out where he was. The paramedics were checking him here. Once I got out of the game, they let me know that he’s doing OK. He’s doing good. He’s in the hospital getting checked out. He’s talking and answering questions and his eyes look good…Hopefully, every test they run on him comes back good,” he continued.
Lindor is basically echoing the same call of Cubs outfielder Albert Almora Jr., who experienced the same thing during a frightening incident in Houston in May.
MLB will certainly have to address this matter soon before a young kid has their life taken away in a ballpark.
