The New York Yankees are expected to make crucial changes to their roster as they enter the 2025 season. The Yanks had a great ride in 2024, but not all those players are expected to return. Like it or not, the 2025 season is going to have a new Yankee squad, not to mention the uncertainty of Juan Soto.
Yankees Players Who Could Be Replaced This Offseason
4) Anthony Rizzo
Anthony Rizzo was a fan favorite, and his stint with the Yankees was not too bad. However, last season, he struggled with injuries. To top it all off, Rizzo’s failure to cover first base in Game 5 of the World Series was the biggest disaster.
The Yankees have declined their club option for Rizzo in 2025. The first baseman is now a free agent and could be replaced by Christian Walker. If their deal with Soto goes well, the Yanks are predicted to pursue Walker. Walker could be the perfect replacement for Rizzo.
3) Gleyber Torres
Gleyber Torres had a few mishaps with the Yankees, but his postseason performance was incredible. Torres was at his best, proving himself and getting on base when they needed it the most. Yet, the franchise had not offered Torres the $21 million qualifying offer.
Torres, just like Rizzo, is now a free agent. The chances of the team extending him an offer are pretty slim. With Jazz Chisholm Jr. on the team, the Yanks could move him back to his original position and leave out Rizzo.

2) Marcus Stroman
The Yankees moved Marcus Stroman to the bullpen after things took a wrong turn. Stroman was not a part of the team’s 26-man roster in the ALDS. Aaron Boone and his squad used Stroman as their reliever, but he had no major role with the team in their postseason.
Gerrit Cole is back in pinstripes, and the Yanks will maintain the rest of their starting rotation. Moreover, they will consider other options on the market. The Yanks could trade Stroman for someone else before they enter 2025.
1) Alex Verdugo
Alex Verdugo started out great but had several struggles throughout the year. Verdugo opened up in the postseason, but he had a tough run. It was not enough for the Yankees, especially since he failed to show up when they needed him the most.
Jasson Dominguez will be the perfect replacement for Verdugo. Dominguez has already played his position, and the fans want to see him more. Verdugo is a free agent, and the Bronx Bombers can just leave him to walk and replace him with Dominguez.
The Yankees could make changes anytime this offseason. The most important contract will be with Juan Soto. Yet, the race to sign the slugger continues as several teams battle for the All-Star.
