The Los Angeles Angels have agreed to terms with pitcher Kenley Jansen. While several teams are already headed toward spring training, Los Angeles is still trying to fill in their spots. The franchise has not made the playoffs in the last 10 years, and their last appearance was in 2014.
The team is keen on progressing in the AL West as the competition gets more challenging each day. They brought in Jansen to bolster their bullpen, hoping to strengthen their chances this season. Jansen agreed to a one-year deal that is worth $10 million.
While some Angles fans are happy to see the team trying to compete, some believe signing Jansen was unnecessary. Former Red Sox slugger A.J. Pierzynski questioned the team’s decision on Jansen’s signing.
“I love Kenley Jansen, but if you’re the Angels and a fan, why do sign this guy? Don’t you want Ben Joyce to learn how to close games? He’s gonna be the closer of the future. I mean, seriously, if you’re the Angels fans, why are you excited about this? This is not a knock on Kenley Janse, he’s a great guy, but why? If you have Ben Joyce, you’re probably not gonna win this year,” Pierzynski said via foul territory.
Pierzynski further states that the team should give Joyce the chance to learn, especially how to save games in the ninth inning.
