Sergio Mitre won’t be seeing the light of day for decades after being convicted of murdering the daughter of his former partner.
The former New York Yankees pitcher, who pitched for four teams in the majors from 2003-11, was convicted of the murder of 1-year-old Ines in 2020, according to Mexican journalist Beatriz Pereyra.
As a result, Mitre is reportedly facing 40-to-60 years in prison.
Via the report:
“After eight days of hearings, the Oral Trial Court in Saltillo issued its sentence at 8:00 p.m.: “he is criminally responsible for the crime already mentioned (…) for the above, this court issues a conviction.”
In the state of Coahuila, the crime of femicide is punishable by a minimum sentence of 40 years and a maximum of 60 years in prison.

On a date yet to be defined, the Court will hold a sentence individualization hearing to announce the years of punishment that the 41-year-old player must serve at the Social Rehabilitation Center (Cereso) in Saltillo.”
Sergio Mitre has been in trouble with the law previously. Back in 2019, Mitre was charged with attempted femicide against his former girlfriend – attempting to murder her strictly because she is female. Somehow he was allowed to walk free after paying a 20,000 peso fine and the requirement that he wore an electronic tracking bracelet.
