On Tuesday, a bombshell report was published that took the accusations of the Astros sign-stealing to the next level and now we may have video to support it.
Ken Rosenthal and Evan Drellich were informed by former employees of the Astros that the team stole signs electronically during its World Series season in 2017. One of those former members was pitcher Mike Fiers.
The report says the Astros system of stealing signs involved a video camera positioned in center field at Minute Maid Park that would feed to a video screen near the home dugout, and players would relay pitch types to hitters by banging on a trash can before an off-speed or breaking pitch was thrown.
Former Chicago White Sox pitcher Danny Farquhar said he experienced it first-hand in 2017.
Here’s the game against the White Sox on Sept. 22, 2017 where you can actually hear loud banging just before Farquhar steps off the mound to talk with his catcher.
The Astros have released a statement regarding these claims

“Regarding the story posted by The Athletic earlier today, the Houston Astros organization has begun an investigation in cooperation with Major League Baseball. It would not be appropriate to comment further on this matter at this time.”
Fiers told The Athletic Houston had zero intentions of slowing down when it came to stealing signs, stating, “they were advanced and willing to go above and beyond to win.”
