The Houston Astros have been quite active this offseason. They have enhanced their roster with new infielders, outfielders, and pitching talent as they prepare for the 2025 season. However, with notable departures like Kyle Tucker, Ryan Pressly, and Justin Verlander, fans are left wondering about third baseman Alex Bregman’s future.
As rumors swirl about Bregman potentially returning, discussions are heating up over whether the Astros should re-sign him. Initially, he had a strong offer, but god knows what had him reject it. After testing free agency and receiving little interest from other teams, the question now is: is it worth it to bring the veteran back at a price of $30 million?
Michael Schwab, the writer covering the Astros, tweeted about where the deal is stuck. “So pretty much my understanding is that Alex Bregman wants $30M a year. Astros are at $26M. There’s the problem,” Schwab tweeted.

Astros are at $26M.
There's the problem.
However, there has not been whatsoever confirmation from either of the parties whether the deal is in making. According to the insider, Houston is just some couple of millions short before they make any promise to Bregman, and the majority of the fanbase is convinced with it.

The Houston Astros’ bid to re-sign Bregman is already facing stiff competition from several teams. While the Astros are determined to bring back the third baseman, Bregman has shown hesitance due to the pay cut from his previous $28.5 million salary. With the recent reports in sight, fans are speculative if the signing worth all this money.

However, other franchises, like the Detroit Tigers, Boston Red Sox, and Toronto Blue Jays, have expressed significant interest. And maybe prepared to present lucrative offers that could sway Bregman’s decision. In light of the challenges surrounding Bregman’s potential return, the Astros have started to explore backup options. And Jorge Polanco is emerging as a possible contingency.
