MLB fans are coming together to offer prayers and messages of support for Milwaukee Brewers All-Star Christian Yelich following the news that he’ll miss the rest of the 2024 season.
Following the Brewers’ monumental 6-4 home win over the Los Angeles Dodgers on Thursday to split a four-game series, Christian Yelich announced that he’ll undergo season-ending back surgery on Friday.
The 32-year-old last played in a July 23 win over the NL Central rival Chicago Cubs. Yelich was removed from that game after suffering the back injury, and so his season ends at 73 games played with the Brewers on the verge of a second straight division crown.

The 2018 National League MVP was having a superb bounce-back season after a down year for his standards. Yelich was batting .315 (his best mark since 2019) with 11 homers, 42 RBI and a remarkable .909 OPS.
So Christian Yelich’s injury is indeed a tough development for a Milwaukee team that’s eyeing its first World Series championship. With the MLB trade deadline passing two weeks ago, the Brewers need their current lineup to carry the load from here on out.
Barring a collapse of historic proportions, the Brewers will win the NL Central crown for the third time in four years. Following Thursday’s win over the Dodgers, the Brewers (69-52) sit nine games ahead of the Cincinnati Reds and St. Louis Cardinals for tops in the division.
Christian Yelich Has Been A Superstar In Milwaukee
Yelich was a star player for the Miami Marlins during his five years with the organization, but his game has reached another level ever since he was traded to Milwaukee ahead of the 2018 season.
The three-time All-Star is hitting .285 as a Brewer with 145 homers, 455 RBI and an 8.77 OPS.
