Juan Soto is undoubtedly one of the best sluggers in baseball today. Soto’s reputation keeps growing day by day, and so does his market. After his stint with the New York Yankees, several teams have flocked to strike a deal with his agent, Scott Boras.
The Yanks, along with the New York Mets and Los Angeles Dodgers, are huge favorites to sign Soto. However, each team’s biggest challenge is matching its price. It is rumored that Soto is predicted to touch Shohei Ohtani’s price, which is $700 million.
Several teams are ready to offer him a long-term contract with high numbers. However, a former Minnesota Twins star believes that Juan Soto will not beat Ohtani’s contract. In a YouTube podcast with Chris Rose, ex-Twins slugger Trevor Plouffe said Soto is not going to best Ohatni’s contract.
“He’s in the unique position where he wants to win, but he wants to cash in, he wants to be the second-highest paid player in baseball because he’s not gonna best Shohei’s contract,” Plouffe said.
Plouffe thinks that Soto could opt for what Ohtani asked, not in terms of the number, but how the contract played out.
“We are going to see him maybe ask what Shohei got. Not the number, but how his did his contract. I’ll take this in deferments to get the number up there. I don’t know if he’ll play for $2 million dollars a year the way that Shohei is, but I can see if deferring,” Plouffe continued.

Hal Steinbrenner Set To Meet Juan Soto And Scott Boras For Contract Talks
It’s hard for the Yankees to let go of Soto, especially after he led them to the World Series. Moreover, giving up their star slugger to their crosstown rival is not easy. Hal Steinbrenner is all set to meet Soto and Scott Boras for contract talks in California.
This news broke out after Mets owner Steve Cohen scheduled a meeting with Soto and his agent. The Yanks will not give up without a fight, as they need Soto on the team. Yankees GM Brian Cashman also said that the Bronx Bombers are ready to meet with the slugger.
The Mets have a great chance to sign Juan Soto, and some speculate he could be the new captain. However, the Yanks will have a slight edge since Soto has been comfortable in the Bronx alongside his teammates.
