Aaron Judge won the 2024 AL MVP award, while his rival Shohei Ohtani won the NL MVP. Both players are coming off an extraordinary season and made it to the World Series. Many argue that Judge is better than Ohtani and vice versa.
In truth, both have been incredible in their respective leagues. However, ex-Twins slugger Trevor Plouffe believes that Judge would outshine Ohtani if it came down to a league-wide MVP. In a podcast episode on JM Baseball with Chris Rose, Plouffe shared his thoughts on the same.
“I think Aaron Judge wins it over Shohei if it’s a league-wide MVP this year. The 50-50 thing looms large in people’s heads. I promise you that, but I think it is offensive overall. I’d probably give it to Judge, and the fact that he obviously played the field means something,” Plouffe said.
Trevor Plouffe Believes Aaron Judge Is A Better Baseball Player Than Derek Jeter
Plouffe continued to discuss Aaron Judge’s success and career highlights. He believes that no player has a clean record and an outstanding offense like Judge. While Plouffe agrees that Jeter had a cultural impact that outshines Judge, he feels that Judge is a better baseball player.
“The cultural impact that Derek Jeter had, I think, probably outshines you know what Aaron Judge has done. I think Judge is a better baseball player than Derek Jeter, but if you ask me like overall Yankeeness, I think he probably sits behind,” Plouffe said.
