Alex Bregman’s free agency drama is still not over as several teams battle to sign the third baseman. Yet, none were able to close in on a deal. Be it the Houston Astros or the Detroit Tigers, the battle is far from over, and spring training is just around the corner.
The Astros came close to signing with Bregman, but the offer was not enough. Houston is still open for a reunion, and it’s left up to Bregman. The slugger is looking for a long-term contract, and now teams like the Cubs have emerged as favorites.
Chicago already acquired Kyle Tucker, which paves the way for Bregman. However, former Philadelphia Phillies slugger Trevor Plouffe thinks the chances of Alex Bregman going to Chicago are slim. Plouffe also thinks the Cubs will not pursue Dylan Cease or any other pitcher.
“I’m putting Bregman on the Tigers. The Cubs have a bunch of starting pitchers. They don’t necessarily need to go out and get a starter. Now, you can make the argument that, hey we got depth maybe we want to get a little bit heavy. I don’t think the Cubs need to give up their prospects. I they can go into the season right now feeling good about their pitching staff,” Plouffe said.
Alex Bregman Isn’t Interested In Signing With The Tigers Or Blue Jays
A recent report by “The 670 Score” states that Bregman is not interested in signing with the Tigers or Blue Jays. Perhaps Bregman is considering the Cubs and the possibility of a reunion with Tucker. Bregman was happy in Houston, but it seems like a reunion is falling apart.
It was brought up on @670TheScore today that they are hearing Alex Bregman isn’t all that interested in signing with the Blue Jays or Tigers. pic.twitter.com/yiCz0b4G5l

The Blue Jays have been in on several top free agents, including Bregman. Given Vladimir Guerrero Jr.’s uncertainty after the 2025 season, the team is keen on adding more offensive pieces, but Bregman to the Blue Jays might not make sense right now.
Bo Bichette is also set to hit the free-agent market after the 2025 season. The franchise has several loopholes to fill within the team. Alex Bregman is looking to join a team to win another title, so the Blue Jays might not be the perfect fit. Bregman has also gathered interest from an AL East team.
