The Baltimore Orioles were one of the top teams to enter the playoffs in 2024. After finishing second in the AL East Division, they failed to make it past the Wild Card round, losing to the Kansas City Royals. The 2025 season will not be easier for the team after failing to retain key players.
The O’s failed to extend Anthony Santander’s contract and let go of Corbin Burnes. However, they signed Tyler O’Neill and a few other players. Fans were unimpressed with their offseason moves, especially after the new owner, David Rubenstein, took over.
Rubenstein took over the Orioles in late January 2024, but there have not been any significant signings. The O’s have a payroll of close to $146.2 million for the 2025 season. In his recent video, former MLB pitcher Trevor May lashed out at Rubenstein for his comments about having a salary cap in baseball.
“Maybe you shouldn’t own a team until you have an answer to that question. You don’t own it because you control all your players for twice as long as all the other sports. That’s why it’s that simple, and you’re a prime example of having an entire team full of guys who have been there for two years. You should know that’s why you don’t have a salary cap,” May said via Foul Territory.

Baltimore Orioles Acquire Luis Vazquez From The Chicago Cubs
The O’s are trying to do what’s best in their potential. The franchise got a hold of infielder Luis Vazquez from the Chicago Cubs. Vazquez is a rookie who has yet to prove himself. The O’s have a few loopholes to fill, and Vazquez might not be the perfect fit.
However, they acquired him for cash considerations. The 25-year-old went 1-for-12 with only one RBI in 11 games. His Triple-A stint with Iowa was not too great, but it was not bad either. The Orioles have DFA’d Emmanuel Rivera after signing Vazquez.

O’s fans are not too happy with the team’s offseason moves. On the other hand, Alex Bregman has drifted away from signing with the Houston Astros.
