Former MLB pitcher Charles Haeger took his own life less than a day after police said he shot and killed his ex-girlfriend in Arizona, according to Fox 10 Phoenix.
“Haeger’s body was discovered about 4 p.m. on a trail along the South Rim of the Grand Canyon in northern Arizona.”
Authorities had probable cause to arrest Haeger on suspicion of murder and aggravated assault in the fatal shooting Friday, said Sgt. Ben Hoster, a Scottsdale Police Department spokesman.
Haeger’s ex-girlfriend, who has been identified as Danielle Breed, was found fatally shot in Scottsdale on Friday. Breed’s roommate told police he saw Haeger emerge with a handgun from her room and immediately ran for help after the former ballplayer pointed the gun at him. A vehicle belonging to Haeger was discovered near Flagstaff on Saturday, more than 100 miles from the scene of the shooting.
His career included stints with the Boston Red Sox, Seattle Mariners and Los Angeles Dodges organizations.
He threw his last MLB pitch in 2010.
