When the New York Mets made the decision to sign former popular Heisman Trophy winner Tim Tebow to their minor league team, the majority of people knew it was pretty much to make money and not off his actual skill.
With the MLB season in limbo and hundreds of minor league players losing their jobs, one former prospect has aired some grievances.
Former second-round pick Andrew Church was one of 39 players released by the Mets on Thursday, so he took to social media and blasted the team as well as Tim Tebow.
“They made a mockery of our team by putting a celebrity on it to sell more tickets,” Church wrote. “I saw players lose their jobs because of it. We weren’t playing to win, we were playing to make everyone else money. Not the players. We never saw a cut. Well, allegedly that one player did.”

Tebow has made it as high as Triple-A Syracuse, spending time on four different teams throughout the Mets organization. With each move that he has made, the Mets and their opponents have seen a notable boost in ticket sales.
In 287 career minor-league games, Tebow is hitting .223 with 18 home runs and 327 strikeouts.
