Mets general manager Jared Porter’s standing with the team landed on shaky ground following a report Monday night indicating he sent unsolicited texts and images to a female reporter in 2016, culminating with a shot of a naked, erect penis.
The team wasted no time in dealing with the situation as they fired him Tuesday morning, mere hours after the report surfaced.
The journalist was described as “a foreign correspondent who had moved to the United States to cover Major League Baseball” and she told ESPN through an interpreter under the condition of anonymity that she had met Porter while he was working in the Chicago Cubs’ front office in 2016.
Soon after meeting him in an elevator at Yankee Stadium, he began texting her.
The messages show Porter invited the woman repeatedly to meet up with him in different cities across the U.S., with him eventually sending her a picture of a man with a bulge in the groin area on a bed in front of a TV. The woman stopped responding, but Porter kept at it.
The woman claims Porter sent over 60 texts to her … with one featuring a naked, erect penis.
