During a recent podcast, ESPN host Jesse Rogers delivered a startling take on the Chicago Cubs’ pursuit of Alex Bregman. He urged the All-Star third basemen to “avoid the Cubs at all costs.”

“He should avoid the Chicago Cubs at all costs. And the primary reason for that is the environment. I went to Baseball Savant, went to Park Factors leaderboards, sorted by right handed hitters. And just examined how much of a liability he would be playing in Wrigley Field. And the answers are astonishing. It is the most difficult ballpark of any for a right handed hitter to double. Which is basically the most important skill that Alex Bregman needs,” Rogers said.

Although his reasoning centers on the notorious conditions at Wrigley Field. With its tall outfield fences and unpredictable wind currents, it often presents serious challenges for right-handed power hitters. Bregman’s tendency to pull the ball toward left field might not translate well in a ballpark known for suppressing his offensive style.
Moreover, Rogers pointed out that Bregman’s two World Series titles and a strong playoff OPS doesn’t guarantee that he would maintain similar success in Chicago. As right-handed hitters with Bregman’s profile have historically faced difficulties at Wrigley.
