Dylan Cease might have already pitched his last game in a Padres uniform. San Diego is trying to shed its payroll this offseason due to various issues. The ownership feud has made things worse, but the team still wants to make the playoffs.
It’s been a dull season for the Padres without adding top talent to their existing squad. Depending on Roki Sasaki was probably not their doing, but losing out the international pitcher to their NL West rival was unexpected. After all the hype, Sasaki picked the Dodgers over the Padres and Yu Darvish.
According to several reports, the Padres are open to trading Dylan Cease. Parting ways with Cease would be a hard blow for the team, but they have bigger fish to fry. San Diego needs a primary catcher, and Christian Vazquez is the name swirling around trade rumors.
The Minnesota Twins and the Padres are rumored to sign a deal involving Cease and Vazquez. The Twins have shown interest in Cease, who agreed to a $13.75 million, one-year deal to avoid arbitration. Many believe Cease will be a great fit in Minnesota if they work things out with the Padres.

Padres Will Be Ready To Part With Dylan Cease For The Right Prospects
It’s been a wild offseason for the Padres. Failing to make a trade before spring training will not make them a strong playoff opponent. The Padres will be ready to part ways with Cease if they get the right prospects.
Cease will give them what they want and probably more, as the Twins will put the pitcher to perfect use. MLB insider Mark Feinsand thinks the same when it comes to parting ways with one of their best pitchers.

“Given the need for starting pitching around the league, the Padres would likely be open to trading Cease if they can find a team willing to part with controllable players and/or prospects,” Fiendsand said via SI.com.
Even if they fail to trade Dylan Cease, the team will still have a top pitcher. However, they must bolster their starting rotation to get stronger. On the other hand, Anthony Rizzo’s free agency rumors are getting hot with potential suitors.
