More details have been revealed as to why the New York Yankees placed starting pitcher Domingo Germán on the restricted list after he state he would be entering alcohol rehab.
According to SNY’s Andy Martino, Germán “grew belligerent” while in the Yankees clubhouse as witnesses determined he was clearly under the influence of alcohol and not in control of his emotions.
According to Lindsey Adler, an argument unfolded between manager Aaron Boone and Domingo German. It led to the pitcher flipping a couch and smashing a TV during this incident. The Yankees made him go in a sauna to “sweat out the alcohol.”
Germán was then taken to the team’s nap room before Tuesday night’s game with security stationed outside the door.
Following that incident, the Yankees announced Wednesday that Germán will not pitch again for the rest of the season and had agreed to voluntarily submit to inpatient treatment for alcohol abuse.

Boone protected his player’s privacy while speaking with reporters following Thursday’s 4-3 victory over the Houston Astros.
“I’m not commenting on anything in regard to what did or didn’t happen with Domingo,” Boone remarked, according to Ryan Glasspiegel and Zach Braziller of the New York Post. “Right now, he’s in a place where hopefully he’s getting the proper help and gets on the right path.”
Before the Yankees shut him down for the year, Germán had a 4.56 ERA, a 1.077 WHIP, and 114 strikeouts in 108 2/3 innings across 20 games and 19 starts. He was scratched from his start Monday due to discomfort in his armpit but would then come in and pitch five scoreless innings out of the bullpen that same game.
This latest incident is just another one in a long line of issues for German in his career. He missed the entire 2020 season due to a domestic violence suspension stemming from an incident in which he reportedly slapped his girlfriend in front of teammates at a charity gala.
The intoxicated Germán was alleged to have become physically violent with his girlfriend until she hid in a locked room and contacted the wife of another Yankees player.
Despite his issues, he somehow threw the 24th perfect game in MLB history but was also suspended 10 games due to an illegal substance violation.
Now, his 2023 season is over.
