The Houston Astros made a major move this offseason by signing Christian Walker. The first baseman from the Arizona Diamondbacks has people talking, and they are worried this could mark an end for Alex Bregman, who has been with the team since 2016 and is now a free agent.
Bringing in Christian Walker is more than adding another name to the roster. The Astros are playing it strategically with their choices as to how they play next season. They got Walker on a three-year deal worth $60 million. And with that much money on the line, they will be boosting their first base production.
Last season, the Astros didn’t get much out of that position, and with Walker’s strong performance, a .251 batting average, and a Gold Glove award, he should help strengthen their lineup.

Before signing Walker, the Astros were also after the star third baseman for the St. Louis Cardinals, Nolan Arenado. However, that deal fell through when Arenado chose not to waive his no-trade clause. Instead, the Astros focused on Walker, who seemed to be a better alternative.
Although, Bregman has been a fan favorite and an important part of the Astros’ success for years. However, with Walker signing and Isaac Paredes potentially moving to third base, many are wondering if Bregman’s time in Houston is coming to an end.

Alex Bregman’s Era Is Almost Over At Astros After Christian Walker Deal
Baseball insider Ken Rosenthal believes that Walker’s arrival almost certainly means Bregman won’t be returning. This news has got a lot of people feeling uneasy. If the Astros are set on Walker and Paredes, it seems unlikely they’ll find a place for Bregman unless something changes dramatically.
Adding to the speculation, the Astros recently traded Kyle Tucker to the Chicago Cubs. This deal can be seen as a sign that they might be ready to shake things up and prepare for a different future. In other words, this sums up that Bregman might not fit into their plans moving forward.

If Houston does not explore an option around Bregman and he leaves Houston, it would really mark the end of an important era for both him and the team. He has a historic run with the team, especially during their World Series win in 2017. Losing him would certainly create a gap in the lineup and the clubhouse.
However, baseball can be a business where tough decisions have to be made. Even though Alex Bregman is still a talented player, the Astros need to think about their finances and how best to shape their team for the future. With Bregman hitting free agency, other teams, especially the Philadelphia Phillies or the Los Angeles Dodgers, will likely be eager to pursue him.
