A well-known college quarterback was selected by a professional baseball team during Tuesday’s MLB Draft.
Oregon State QB DJ Uiagalelei could join an exclusive list of athletes to be drafted by both the MLB and the NFL, with the Los Angeles Dodgers picking him in the 20th round.
Uiagalelei played baseball in high school but hasn’t done so in college, having started out at Clemson before making the switch to his current program. He’s probably never going to end up playing for the Dodgers but there’s a good chance he gets drafted by an NFL team.
Of course, the QB will have his work cut out for him as he struggled in Clemson’s offense after the departure of Trevor Lawrence. He will have an opportunity to take his draft stock back up at Oregon State next season, however.
As noted above, DJ is hardly the first football player to be drafted by an MLB team. The likes of Deion Sanders and Bo Jackson played in both the MLB and NFL while Tom Brady was drafted by the Montreal Expos before he went on to make a name for himself in football.
There are also some current NFL players who could have played pro baseball as they were selected by various teams.

Patrick Mahomes was drafted by the Detroit Tigers as a high school student and Jameis Winston was a 15th-round pick by the Texas Rangers. The Oakland A’s selected Kyler Murray in 2018, though they were well aware he was never going to play baseball.
Russell Wilson also had some minor league action while in college.
