Back in 2019, the baseball world was in complete shock after finding out former Major League Baseball star David Ortiz was attacked and shot as part of a wild murder attempt. It seemed like his life was going to be taken away from him, but luckily he survived.
Many of them have been brought to justice and their punishment was handed down this week. According to a report from ESPN, 10 of the 13 people accused of attacking David Ortiz in the 2019 incident have been convicted in court in the Dominican Republic.
Rolfi Ferreyra Cruz, who is accused of shooting Ortiz, and Eddy Vladimir Feliz Garcia were each sentenced to 30 years in prison.
The other eight defendants who were convicted received sentences of between 5 and 20 years in prison, according to ESPN.
Ortiz would spend six weeks in a Dominican hospital following the attack. Despite rumors at the time, it was later revealed Ortiz was not even supposed to be the target of the murder attempt.

The target was actually supposed to be his cousin, Sixto David Fernandez. He was sharing a table with Ortiz at a bar when he was shot as the hitmen confused Fernandez with Ortiz.
