This is just a horrible way to bring in the new season.
The Diamondbacks were preparing themselves for the worst in regard to right fielder Steven Souza Jr.’s knee injury.
Souza injured his left knee while scoring in the fourth inning on Monday night, during a freak play where he stumbled and slipped on home plate. It was a non-contact injury, but he still grabbed for his leg as he rolled around on the ground in pain.
“It didn’t look great,” Diamondbacks general manager Mike Hazen said. “I think everyone saw that. But we still need to go through the process with the imaging, see what it says. Fingers crossed that it’s not worst-case scenario. Unfortunately, our job is to prepare for worst-case scenario at all times.”

Souza was expected to start in right field for the D-Backs this season. Adam Jones or Jarrod Dyson will likely take his place.
