One of the most iconic and historic uniforms in the world of professional sports is undergoing a change for the 2024 season.
According to Paul Lukas of Uni Watch, the New York Yankees are adjusting their road uniforms for the upcoming 2024 MLB season:
“As you’re no doubt aware, the Yanks’ road jerseys have long featured white outlining on the chest lettering and back number, along with decorative trim on the sleeve cuffs. The white outlining and sleeve trim were both added in 1973, when the team transitioned from flannels to stretch knits. But according to a page from the 2024 MLB Style Guide, which was provided to me by a source, the white outlining and sleeve trim are both being eliminated this season”
As you can see in the pictures below, the white outlining on “New York” across the chest will be eliminated, with the sleeve trimming also being taken off.
For comparison sake, here’s what the Yankees’ previous road uniforms looked like:

As a widely-celebrated and beloved franchise, the Yankees have rarely changed their jersey/uniform designs throughout their history. The home “Pinstripes” design were made legendary by the likes of Babe Ruth and Lou Gehrig during the start of the franchise’s glory years in the 1920s.
The Yankees are coming off a rare non-playoff season, having barely finished with a winning record at 82-80. The unforgiving AL East sent three teams to the postseason in the 101-win Baltimore Orioles, 99-win Tampa Bay Rays and 89-win Toronto Blue Jays.
But expectations are sky-high for the Yankees this year for one simple reason: They landed generational talent and star outfielder Juan Soto in a blockbuster trade with the San Diego Padres, adding another superstar to help Aaron Judge.
The Yankees will open their 2024 season with a four-game set against the Houston Astros, with opening day set for Mar. 28. So fans don’t have to wait too much longer to see those brand new shiny road unis.
