Brett Netzer seems to proud of who he is, but the person he is not somebody the Boston Red Sox want to be associated with.
The Red Sox released prospect Brett Netzer on Saturday after he took to Twitter and sent several racist, homophobic, and anti-Semitic tweets, The Athletic’s Chad Jennings reported and The Boston Globe‘s Alex Speier later confirmed.
Netzer’s tweets attacked Black Americans, transgender people, and Red Sox chief baseball officer Chaim Bloom.
“chaim bloom is a bad actor,” Netzer wrote in his first of several tweets attacking Bloom. “dude went to hebrew school and studied the torah growing up but sold his soul to the sodom and race groups. good thing he is good at whatever he does in baseball.”
“is chaim bloom even jewish?? highly doubtful,” Netzer wrote in another tweet.

Netzer semed extremely hopeful that he would be released as he reposted a few of his tweets on the Instagram Story for his verified Instagram account and said “release me.”
Netzer posted a photo and video from his Twitter account to confirm the tweets were coming from him and that he was not hacked. He then followed that up by stating he was indeed racist.
The 25-year-old last played in AA ball for the Portland Sea Dogs in 2019, batting .247 with 24 doubles and eight home runs. He spent the 2021 season on the restricted list.
