An interesting MLB trade prediction has the New York Yankees dealing a perennial MVP candidate in a “fire sale” move that would completely shake up the 2024 postseason race.
This past winter, the New York Yankees made a giant splash by landing superstar slugger Juan Soto in a blockbuster deal with the San Diego Padres. With Soto joining Aaron Judge in a potent New York lineup, the Pinstripes are hoping that the ex-Padres and Washington Nationals star can help the franchise win its first World Series in 15 years.
But if things don’t go well for New York this season, general manager Brian Cashman will likely look to trade Soto as opposed to potentially losing him for nothing in 2024 free agency.
Bleacher Report’s Joel Reuter offered one bold prediction for all 30 MLB teams in 2024. For the Yankees, Reuter predicted that Cashman will commit a “fire sale” at the trade deadline that includes Soto, Alex Verdugo, Gleyber Torres and Clay Holmes:
“If the Yankees fall out of the AL East race early, which is a very real possibility given the wide range of potential outcomes from their starting rotation, they have a lot of intriguing pieces to put on the trade block. Juan Soto, Gleyber Torres, Clay Holmes, Alex Verdugo and Jonathan Loáisiga are all free agents next offseason.”

The Yankees obviously hope that the 2024 season doesn’t come to the point of having to commit a fire sale. With Soto, Judge and Gerrit Cole rounding out a deep core, the Pinstripes are expected to be in the running for the 2024 World Series.
But if things end up going sideways in the Bronx, New York will likely have no choice but to trade Soto. A star of his caliber would give Cashman a king’s ransom of a return, after all.
Juan Soto Is Off To A Blistering Start With The New York Yankees
Through his first two games with the Yankees, Soto hit .571 with three walks, two RBI and a 1.414 OPS. He also saved the day in the season opener against the Houston Astros by throwing out Mauricio Dubón, the game-tying run, at home plate.
The Yankees started out a perfect 2-0 against the bitter rival Astros despite the absence of Cole to begin the season. So right now, any Soto trade talk is awfully premature.
