Toronto Blue Jays players found a hilarious way to “punish” Tim Mayza over his last-place finish in the team’s fantasy football league.
During the Blue Jays’ spring training game against the Philadelphia Phillies on Saturday afternoon, Mayza was seen serving as the team’s bat boy. The numbers on the back of his jersey read “4-10”, were apparently a reference to his fantasy football record for 2023.
Hey, there could be much worse punishments…
Mayza was one of the Jays’ top relief pitchers last season, going 3-1 with an impressive 1.52 ERA in 53.1 innings pitched (69 game appearances). Mayza struck out 53 batters and walked only 15 batters.
For his career, Mayza is 20-7 with a 3.47 ERA in 259 innings pitched. He helped the Blue Jays to Wild Card berths in 2022 and 2023, though they were eliminated in the AL Wild Card Series on both occasions.
Toronto will open their 2024 regular season with a four-game series against the Tampa Bay Rays that commences on Mar. 28.
