It’s only day two of the 2022 MLB season and things are already getting nasty between the Washington Nationals and New York Mets.
Things got intense during the top of the fifth inning, after Mets slugger Francisco Lindor took a pitch in the face from the Nats’ Steve Cishek while squaring up for a bunt. That angered the Mets manager Buck Showalter and several other players, causing the benches to clear.
Cooler heads would eventually prevail, but not before some heated words were exchanged between both sides.
The commentators do mention the difficulty pitchers have been having with their grip, as three Mets players were beaned in their opener yesterday. It didn’t appear as though this was a purposeful act, though. And a few Nationals players were even spotted checking out Lindor afterwards. Thankfully, Lindor appeared to be okay.
These teams will face each other plenty of times throughout the season, so I wouldn’t expect this to be over just yet.
