According to The Orange County Register, there is an arrest warrant out in Venezuela for Los Angeles Angels infielder Luis Rengifo.
The report says Rengifo is being accused of forging divorce papers in July 2018 that were legalized in December 2020. Those documents state Rengifo’s father allegedly sold real estate and cars to Rengifo’s sister without the consent of his wife.
His wife filed a complaint this month after discovering the deception and now Rengifo’s sister, his father and his lawyer have all been detained.
Rengifo was recalled from the Angel’s Triple-A affiliate earlier this month and he led the team to a 4-2 victory over the Houston Astros after he homered with three RBIs.
In three seasons for the Angels, Luis Rengifo has 119 hits in 177 games. He has 12 home runs, 46 RBIs, a .213 batting average and a .294 on-base percentage.
