Anthony Rizzo’s rumors seem to have taken a turn of events after the New York Yankees decided to sign Paul Goldschmidt. The Yankees have continued to be the most active team pursuing free agents this offseason. The Bronx Bombers have added several sluggers and have found their possible replacement for Rizzo.
The Yankees have declined Rizzo’s club option for 2025. Since then, there has not been much for the first baseman in the free-agent market. However, Brian Cashman hinted at a possible reunion with Rizzo. Cashman stated that the Yanks value Rizzo and could look further after the winter.
The Yanks have also had discussions with Rizzo’s agent, Marc Pollack. Rizzo’s 2024 stint in the Bronx was not too great due to injuries. His World Series performance was not too excellent, either. Now that the Yankees have signed Goldschmidt, Anthony Rizzo’s future with the team is questionable.
Yankees Could Slip Away From Rizzo As NL East Team Emerges As Favorites
Cashman might have been serious about considering Anthony Rizzo after the winter. Yet, an AL East team has emerged as a favorite to sign the star slugger. According to TWSN, Rizzo is expected to sign with the Miami Marlins.
The Marlins need an experienced player to sign with the team. That said, Anthony Rizzo will be the perfect fit. Miami is in need of a slugger to bolster their offense. They can use Rizzo at first base and make use of his leadership.
Anthony Rizzo is 35, and he’s expected to have a short-term contract. Several MLB fans were shocked to see the Yanks choose Goldschmidt over Rizzo. The Yanks have probably replaced Rizzo with Goldschmidt already, and it’s rather doubtful that he will finish his career in pinstripes.

The Marlins had a terrible season after finishing at the bottom of the NL East. Miami lost 100 games last season, and they need some veterans like Rizzo to help the team win. The Marlins could opt for a short two-year deal with Rizzo. For now, Rizzo’s career with the Yanks hangs by a thread.
