The MLB season has come to a close, so here are the Final Team Grades for the 2024 season.
Which teams have the highest grades after the conclusion of the 2024 MLB season?
Arizona Diamondbacks: B-
Missing the playoffs is nobody’s goal, but finishing 89-73 is a good season. The Diamondbacks fought hard in 2024 but fell just a few games short of the postseason in the end.
Atlanta Braves: B
The Braves snuck into the playoffs after losing multiple players to injury throughout the season. Atlanta’s season wasn’t flashy, but the wins added up in the end.
Baltimore Orioles: A-
While Baltimore didn’t finish the season the way they wanted to by winning the AL East, they were the top AL Wild Card team and had a top-ten record to end the season.

Boston Red Sox: C+
Boston had an elite pitching staff to begin the season, and by the end, their pitching was why they missed the playoffs. Their offense had the opposite year, starting slow and finishing fast, but they never played well together, resulting in Boston missing the playoffs.
Chicago White Sox: F- –
There should be a new grade for how bad the White Sox were this season, considering they set a record for most losses in a season. Chicago was horrible from start to finish.
Chicago Cubs: C+
Chicago gets a C+ for their 24 season for failing to live up to their potential. When this team was hot. There were times they were a top-ten offense, and when they were bad, it was tough to watch. The Cubs had the potential to be special.

Cincinnati Reds: D
The Reds really let a lot of people down. Sitting around .500 in June, the losses added up by the week afterward. Cincinnati wasn’t good enough to be a playoff team, but 80+ losses were shocking.
Cleveland Guardians: A
The Guardians had an amazing season, winning the AL Central and finishing with a top record in the MLB. Both offensively and defensively, they were among the best in the league, and they found ways to win all season.
Colorado Rockies: D-
The Rockies have one of the best home-field advantages in the MLB, but it didn’t show in 2024. The Rockies finished with 101 losses because their pitching rotation was the worst in the league.
Detroit Tigers: B+
The Tigers started slow and snuck into the playoffs. Thanks to the AL CY Young candidate Tarik Skubal and their offense playing team ball all season. Detroit finished with a wild card spot.
Houston Astros: B
The Astros started the season ice cold and finished on fire. Houston looked like father time had caught up to their veteran roster, but midseason additions helped propel them into the postseason.
Kansas City Royals: B+
The Royals have been star-powered all season. Bobby Witt Jr and Salvador Perez led the offense. At the same time, Seth Lugo and Cole Ragens led their pitching rotation.
Los Angeles Angels: D-
Another year, another Mike Trout injury away from competing. When your best player never plays, it’s hard to be good. When you lose another star in the offseason, it’s even harder,
Los Angeles Dodgers: A+
When you add Shohei Ohtani to a lineup with Mookie Betts and Freddie Freeman, you have one goal: to be the best in the league. In 2024, the Dodgers did just that, dominating the entire season and ending the year with the best overall record in the MLB.
Miami Marlins: D-
The Marlins had high expectations coming into the season, which was cut short due to poor performance. The Marlins have never been big spenders, so it was hard to see how they could keep a roster together that featured Jazz Chisolm and Luis Arrez, and eventually, all of their stars wore other jerseys this season.
Milwaukee Brewers: A-
Milwaukee had one of the best offenses in the MLB this season and easily won the NL Central. Their only weakness is their pitching rotation, but even that unit is a consistent group.
Minnesota Twins: B-
The Twins missed the playoffs but had a top offense in the league for the majority of the season. Minnesota’s bad finish to the season kept them out of a wild-card spot.
New York Yankees: A
The Yankees finished as the best team in the American League in 2024. Now the question remains: can they do it in the Playoffs? New York is talented but flawed, as during July, they looked awful, and during the rest of the season, they were phenomenal.
New York Mets: B+
The Mets fought their way into the playoffs following a slow start to the year. If it wasn’t for the Padres, the Mets easily would have had the best second half of the season in the MLB. Shoutout to Grimace for leading the charge.
Oakland Athletics: D
It was the Athletics last season in Oakland, and they finished it in Athletics style by losing. All in All, this was a good year in terms of building for the future, but the record won’t show that.
Philadelphia Phillies: A+
The Phillies finished the season as the two-seed in the NL Playoffs. Their stars showed up big all season, getting production offensively from Harper, Turner, and Schwarber and from four aces, Wheeler, Nola, Sanchez, and Suarez.
Pittsburgh Pirates: C
The Pirates 2024 might have been bad, but their future is bright. Paul Skenes is a top NL Rookie of the Year candidate as a pitcher, and Jared Jones also improved during the season.
San Diego Padres: A+
The Padres looked dead in the water at the All-Star Break, but the second half of the season was a revival. San Diego is the scariest team in baseball entering the playoffs.
San Francisco Giants: D
The Giants were a mediocre team both offensively and defensively and finished two games below .500. San Francisco simply couldn’t keep up with the dominance in their division, having to compete with the Dodgers, Padres, and Diamondbacks.
Seattle Mariners: C-
To miss the playoffs after trading for Justin Turner and Randy Arozarena is one thing, but to miss the playoffs after holding a 5+ game lead in your division is another. The Mariners ending the season at home was more than disappointing.
St. Louis Cardinals: C+
The Cardinals barely missed the playoff this season in a competitive NL race. They finished the season with over 80 wins, which is a good sign, but it’s time for them to find some youth.
Tampa Bay Rays: C-
The Rays finished the season two games under .500. With a pitching staff that finished in the top ten of ERA and WHIP, that record is unacceptable. But their offensive problems can be fixed in the offseason to help them next year.
Texas Rangers: D-
The Rangers get a D- not for their record, but for being one of the worst MLB teams following a World Series win ever. Texas had a ton of problems this year that never allowed them to get over .500 or have a real chance at the postseason.
Toronto Blue Jays: D-
Many wonder what Toronto’s plans for the future are exactly. It’s never a bad idea to build around a player like Vladamir Gurrero Jr, but the haul they could have gotten back at the trade deadline could expedite their rebuild.
Washington Nationals: C-
The Nationals were in a rebuilding season, and that’s exactly what they did. All of their prospects were called up, and now, their roster needs to add a few veterans to make it a better team. They also need to fix their bullpen to compete in their division.
